Arkansas Supportive Housing Network Inc. - 15 Years of Service to the Homeless and Disabled

Arkansas Homeless Coalition (AHC) is a dynamic organization whose membership includes homeless advocates, service providers, faith-based communities, homeless and formerly homeless persons, academics and many others. These individuals are committed to identifying and addressing policy barriers and issues that prevent movement and that trap men, women, and children in the cycle of homelessness.

AHC recognizes each person's right to be respected, to be treated with dignity, and to be provided with the basic human needs of food and shelter. AHC is dedicated to offering the resources and support to rebuild lives and to end homelessness by improving the conditions of persons living without shelter in Arkansas . Arkansas Homeless Coalition actively advocates on behalf of the homeless for their right to have access to housing and services.

AHC is a collaborative effort of the individuals and agencies who address the challenges of homelessness in our community.  AHC strives to prevent homelessness as well as increase the ability of the community to respond to individual needs.

Some of the ways in which the AHC mission will be carried out include community education, legislative advocacy, and technical assistance activities. The Coalition will work to prevent homelessness by helping communities to design homeless response systems that meet their needs.

  • Community Education Program. To empower people to take action in their communities, the Coalition educates the public through community forums, the media, educational materials, and homeless awareness weekends.
  • Legislative Advocacy Program. The Coalition will inform policy-makers on efforts that will 1) address the housing needs of low-income individuals and those facing barriers to securing stable housing; 2) prevent homelessness through community collaboration and early intervention; and 3) promote services that advance long-term economic stability and respect clients' needs.
  • Technical Assistance Program. The Coalition will offer technical support to service providers statewide on state and federal policy actions that could affect and/or improve service to clients.
  • Direct Action. The Coalition will provide opportunities for individuals, groups, and faith communities to participate in activities positively impacting individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Activities include rehabbing houses through the Homes for the Homeless project, mentoring, job training, and transportation.

Arkansas Homeless Coalition will address social injustice and civil rights violations against the homeless of Arkansas , while working to improve their quality of life by increasing services and housing.
